Eagles News: Jerry Jones ranks Cowboys Thanksgiving victory above Super Bowl wins - Bleeding Green Nation

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Jerry Jones Ranks Thanksgiving Win Over Commanders As One of Top Cowboys Moments - FOX59
Jerry Jones has been the owner of the Cowboys since 1989, winning three Super Bowl titles since then. Yet, the 81-year-old ranked Thursday’s annual Cowboys game on Thanksgiving vs. the Commanders as one of the top moments in his career with the team thus far. It should be noted that the Cowboys dominated and won 45–10 as the Commanders never really stood a chance to beat Dallas at home. “I don’t know that I’ve had a day like this,” Jones said after the game, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “And I’ll include them all, I’ll put Super Bowls in there, I don’t know if I’ve ever had a better day with the Cowboys than today.”

Eagles Film Analysis: All-22 defense takeaways from the Chiefs game - BGN
Whatever you think of Sean Desai, there is absolutely no doubt that he is willing to try new things every week and will be aggressive. I’d rather a defensive coordinator like that than someone who is stubborn and stuck in their ways.

Anatomy of a big play: The Eagles’ jet sweep vs. the Chiefs - PhillyVoice
Nick Sirianni was asked about the motion/snap/turn/handoff on that play. “I appreciate you noticing that because the reps that go into getting that detail right on, it takes a lot of work because, D’Andre is obviously a special talent, but without the exact detail on that play being right on, that play doesn’t work for that, and then we lose all those yards rushing that we got on that play and that obviously set up a touchdown,” Sirianni said. “So, the amount of time that our guys have spent on that play and the ball handling of plays, right, and that’s just not on that play. That’s every running play that is in and every play-action that’s in. There is a lot of time devoted toward the detail of the play. The talents of the players make the play go and then the detail lets the play really shine. And so, man, they really worked hard on that.” Jalen Hurts was proud of that play as well. “I appreciate the question honestly because we talk about the small details in the game and that was a big play for us, obviously,” Hurts said. “It’s just the small details are something that not everyone magnifies. It is something we put emphasis on, having proper ball handling, and it was a great play by D’Andre.”

NFL Week 12 picks, schedule, odds, injuries, fantasy tips - ESPN
Bold prediction: Josh Allen’s interception streak will come to an end. Despite facing the team with the best record on the road, Allen’s career-high seven-game stretch with at least one interception in each game will come to a close. The offense and Allen’s confidence took a big step in the right direction against the Jets, and that will continue in this big game. Plus, while the Eagles’ defense has plenty to give the Bills a tough day, it has recorded only five interceptions this season, tied for the second fewest in the NFL.

Eagles Insights: Appreciating Brandon Graham, what’s impressive about Sean Desai, should the Eagles pursue Shaq Leonard? - PHLY
Because keeping Graham on the roster this long is a conscious decision; certainly, the Eagles could have found someone to be the No. 3 pass rusher who is younger, has more upside, or more athletic traits — and perhaps is less expensive. And it’s a choice from Graham, too. He’s won a ring, made a Pro Bowl, etched his name into franchise record books, and has no shortage of post-career options. But he’s still at work early, still talking trash through training camp practices, still a vocal and constant presence in the locker room, still making plays on Sundays. That joy in Year 14 cannot be overstated. A few weeks ago, I stopped by an event Graham participated in on a Friday night at Hope’s Cookies in Villanova. He scooped ice cream and signed autographs with proceeds from the event supporting Philabundance. The line spread around the block even before Graham was due to appear. Children and adults wore Graham jerseys, eager to meet him. Ten years ago, this would have seemed to be the most improbable scene to imagine a decade later. But you know what could have been predicted? Graham greeted everyone with that smile, that laugh. He was everyone’s best friend. It takes more than a good attitude to play the most games in franchise history — the football ability matters most, of course — but the attitude is what I’ll think about this weekend when Graham breaks David Akers’ record. It’s not the sack on Brady. It’s not overcoming the bust label. It’s the “good juju.” Because from my view, that’s always been his superpower.

What’s behind dramatic increase in snaps for Haason Reddick and Josh Sweat? - NBCSP
Sweat and Reddick may be playing a lot of snaps, but they’ve both been at their best late in games. The Eagles have an astounding 12 sacks in the final five minutes of games this year. Nobody else has more than eight. Reddick has a league-high four of them, Sweat has 2 ½, 3rd-most and Graham has 1 ½. The rest have been Jalen Carter (1 ½), Jordan Davis (1.0), Nicholas Morrow (1.0) and Fletcher Cox (0.5). So Sweat, Reddick and Graham have a combined 17 sacks, and eight of them — nearly half — have come in the last five minutes of games. Clearly the rotation is working. “I think in terms of conditioning, that’s a big thing, a foundational thing that we really believe in is making sure our guys are conditioned,” Desai said. “We practice a certain way to help them get into shape and conditioned. They have to do their own stuff, too, to stay up with that. I think that’s a huge part in terms of guys going to finish games. I think our whole defense has really shown they’ve been able to do that.”

Every NFL team’s highest-graded wide receiver from Week 11 - PFF
Philadelphia Eagles: DeVonta Smith (79.3). Philadelphia picked up its eighth win of the season despite A.J. Brown being held to one catch. DeVonta Smith carried the offense with 99 receiving yards. It was his fifth game of the season with at least five catches, and he has 342 yards since Week 6. Smith tallied four catches of 10-plus yards in Week 11, including two grabs of 20-plus yards. He secured a 41-yard contested catch in the fourth quarter and was stopped one yard shy of his fifth touchdown of the season. Smith averaged 3.54 yards per route run and finished with a 116.1 passer rating when targeted.

Spadaro: Eagles’ mental game making a difference - PE.com
There are a lot of words used to describe that something special this Eagles team possesses. “Resiliency” is one. “Leadership” is another. “Grinding” is a good way to depict how the players and coaches work through their daily lives and the play-to-play segments of games. All of those words work, and they all fall under the umbrella of mental toughness, and that is a personality trait and characteristic the Eagles have in abundance. They find ways to win. They don’t panic. They stick to the course, they support each other, and they play for the team. And they win football games, nine of them in the first 10 outings of this 2023 NFL season. “When you come into a hostile environment, when you win a regular-season game on the road against really outstanding players and coaches, we can’t do that alone,” Head Coach Nick Sirianni said on Monday night following the 21-17 win over Kansas City. “We have to do that together and that was the message we had all week was play together. It really showed itself tonight how together we were. Whoever was going to win that game, was going to win it gritty, grimy, nasty. All those adjectives. It was not pretty on either side. It was going to be that way. “The guys just stayed together and kept grinding it out. We were able to come out on top.”

An inside look at Julio Jones’ impact on the Eagles receivers: ‘Everybody respects him here.’ - Inquirer
Jones took 57% of the Eagles’ snaps in Monday night’s game against the Chiefs. It was almost double his previous season-high snap count. With tight end Dallas Goedert out with a right forearm fracture, Jones could see increased playing time over the next few weeks. Given his age, this might come as a surprise to some, but not to those who have seen his selfless game and meticulous work ethic up close. Brown knows Jones’ value better than anyone. He knows it doesn’t just show up on Sundays. It’s omnipresent. “He’s a great human being,” Brown said. “I’m still learning from him. I’m still trying to soak in as much as I can. He fits right in with the room. Everybody respects him here.”

Do outside perceptions of Buffalo Bills WR Gabe Davis miss the mark? - Buffalo Rumblings
It isn’t such that people are wrong in wanting more from Gabe Davis as receiver — especially as a featured WR2 who often sees near-complete or better snap percentages in each game. Davis’ catch rate in the role as WR2 isn’t good enough at this point, and it should need to improve if he’s going to remain as the second look at outside receiver. It’s fair to wonder if the book’s been written on him, or if there’s still time to change the narrative. What I’m suggesting is that more people simply give Gabe Davis the opportunity to show what he can do with a different offensive coordinator in place. Yes, with Brady running things, Davis put together his worst stat line in the NFL. But again, was that by design due to the Jets’ defense? Was Kincaid being utilized more as a pseudo-tight end, filling the role lost in looks where tight end Dawson Knox might normally be utilized?

Jerry Jones likes Cowboys linebackers but doesn’t rule out interest in Shaq Leonard - PFT
The Cowboys are down a linebacker after placing veteran Leighton Vander Esch on injured reserve Oct. 16 with a season-ending neck injury. Veteran linebacker Shaquille Leonard surprisingly became a free agent this week after clearing waivers. The Colts cut Leonard on Monday. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after Thursday’s blowout of the Commanders that the front office had a “short meeting” about Leonard before the game. “We’ll see how we do with our evaluation and look at him pretty good,” Jones said. “[We’ll] look at some health things [with Leonard]. I know a lot of teams are looking at him, so I don’t want to give an indication of the degree of our interest with him.”

10 thoughts on the Cowboys 45-10 runaway turkey day win over the Commanders - Blogging The Boys
5. DEFENSE COULDN’T GET OFF THE FIELD. The final score screams dominance, but we know better. This game had its share of stress throughout the first three quarters. The reason for this is that the Cowboys’ defense couldn’t seem to get off the field. Excluding the end-of-half possession, Washington’s first six possessions all went for at least six plays and helped them hold a significant time of possession advantage of 37 minutes compared to just 23 for the Cowboys. The Commanders weren’t putting up many points, but they made it hard for the Cowboys’ defense to get off the field and kept them in it for the great majority of the game.

BREAKING: The Washington Commanders have fired DC Jack Del Rio - Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders are 4-8 and were blown out on a nationally-televised Thanksgiving game by the Dallas Cowboys 45-10. Changes have been needed in Washington for a while, but new owner Josh Harris has been evaluating the entire organization since taking over in late July. Rivera is almost certainly gone after the season, but Del Rio gets the axe today after yesterday’s performance, and a loss to the Tommy DeVito-led Giants 5 days ago.

Giants-Patriots: What to expect when the Giants have the ball - Big Blue View
It might seem tempting for the Giants to abandon the run against the Patriots. After all, that’s the strength of New England’s defense. Their 97.7 rush yards per game allowed is the ninth-best in the NFL, and both their rush defense DVOA and PFF run defense grade rank sixth. Still, as the Giants have seen through much of the season, choosing not to run altogether is a bad idea. To keep attempting that balanced attack often helps the run break through later in the game. That was visible against the Commanders when Barkley did not have a single rushing yard before the final play of the third quarter; he finished with 14 carries for 83 yards, including two breakaways. The Giants should definitely pass more than run, but they should not completely let go of trying to run the ball.

Jim Irsay thinks he was arrested in 2014 because he’s a ‘rich white billionaire’ - SB Nation
If you’ve ever thought that billionaires might be out of touch with society then Colts owner Jim Irsay just raised the bar higher than you could possibly imagine. Appearing on Real Sports with Bryant Gumble on Tuesday night, Irsay said that his 2014 DUI arrest was because he was “prejudiced against because I’m a rich, white billionaire.” Irsay was arrested by Carmel, Indiana police in March of 2014 after he was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence. The Colts owner failed numerous field sobriety tests, and upon a routine search of his vehicle police found numerous pill bottles containing Schedule IV narcotics. Irsay was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, and four felony counts for possession of a controlled substance. However Irsay told Andrea Kremer his arrest was actually because he’s a rich white man.
