The Texas Rangers became world champions for the first in the franchise’s 63-year history Wednesday night with a decisive 5-0 win in Game 5 of the World Series on the road. When the team returns home, it will be welcomed by a parade Friday at 12:15 p.m., in Arlington, and here’s everything you need to know before you go.
Parking
Parking will be provided surrounding Globe Life Field and AT&T Stadium, with lots opening at 8 a.m. Parking will be free, and the event is also free to the public.
Parking lots inside the parade’s circular route will be closed before and during the event. These include the Live! by Loews hotel parking garage, Cowboys Lot 4, and Rangers lots A, B, R and T.
Road closures and route
All roads that are part of the parade route will be closed by 10 a.m., as well as the roads inside the route. The route is traced in red in the map provided by Arlington city officials.
Road closures include:
- Cowboys Way from AT&T Way to Stadium Drive
- AT&T Way from Cowboys Way to Nolan Ryan Expressway
- Nolan Ryan Expressway from AT&T Way to Road to Six Flags Drive and then to Randol Mill Road
- Road to Six Flags Drive from Nolan Ryan Expressway to Ballpark Way
- Ballpark Way, which turns into Stadium Drive after Randol Mill Road; from Road to Six Flags Drive to Cowboys Way
- Randol Mill Road from AT&T Way to Ballpark Way
The parade will begin on Cowboys Way by Lot A, right next to Globe Life Field.
What the parade entails
Beginning at 12:15 p.m. Friday, the parade’s 1.9-mile route is expected to take about an hour as it travels clockwise around the Arlington entertainment district.
It will end where it began — at Lot A — and it will include all Rangers players, Arlington mayor Jim Ross and the city council, representatives from Arlington public safety agencies, and local school marching bands.
There is a parade viewing area between Globe Life Field and Choctaw Stadium, with video screens to view the action. There is another video screen on the east side of Choctaw Stadium.
Afterwards, there will be a celebration at the Texas Live! complex north of Globe Life Field, where goers will hear from Rangers executives, players and manager Bruce Bochy. Hall of Famer Chuck Morgan will lead the 30-minute program beginning as soon as the parade ends.
The parade will be broadcast on Bally Sports Southwest, with local outlets also providing coverage, according to a news release.
What can you bring
City officials ask fans to celebrate safety and be courteous to others, but there are no specific restrictions -- ie., alcohol or tents -- that Arlington is putting in place for the event.
Public restrooms and concessions will be available through the north and west entrances of Choctaw Stadium.
