With NBA free agency in full swing, here’s a look at the latest intel on Damian Lillard trade talks, free agency updates for Jeff Green, Austin Reaves, Cam Johnson, PJ Washington, Grant Williams, Malik Beasley, Terence Davis, Torrey Craig, and more on the Thunder, Raptors, Heat.

Damian Lillard requests trade from Blazers

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard has requested a trade, according to multiple reports, and several teams covet the seven-time All-Star who was named one of the NBA’s 75 Greatest Players ever. While the Miami Heat is reportedly Lillard’s preferred destination, other teams can make compelling trade packages, such as the Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, and others.

Portland is also expected to discuss Jusuf Nurkic as part of trade packages surrounding Lillard, league sources told HoopsHype. Nurkic is owed $54.38 million over the next three seasons, per our HoopsHype Blazers salaries page.

With Lillard wanting out, Portland will enter a rebuild around No. 3 overall pick Scoot Henderson and last year’s No. 7 overall pick Shaedon Sharpe.

Another trade candidate to monitor down the line will be Jerami Grant, who agreed to a five-year, $160 million deal with the Blazers before the team received word that Lillard wanted out of Portland. Grant was expected to draw interest from several teams in free agency, including the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers before word got around the league that the 29-year-old forward would remain with Portland on a new blockbuster deal. Grant is in the prime of his career and doesn’t ideally fit Portland’s new timeline with its young core.

With all that in mind, which team could have the best trade package to acquire Lillard? While Miami is widely reported to be his preferred destination, Miami doesn’t have the best trade package to offer on paper. The Brooklyn Nets were originally viewed as a potential desired destination before reports shifted towards Miami.

While league sources say Mikal Bridges is not for sale, the Nets can theoretically offer a package involving some combination of up to seven first-round picks, rising center Nicolas Claxton, starting point guard Spencer Dinwiddie and his $20.36 million expiring contract, coveted wings in Royce O’Neale and Dorian Finney-Smith, and recent first-round picks Noah Clowney and Dariq Whitehead.

The Nets have been unwilling to move O’Neale without the equivalent of a first-round pick in return or Finney-Smith without the equivalent of two first-round picks, league sources told HoopsHype.

Despite Brooklyn’s potential package of assets, Miami is considered a stronger contender in the East heading into next season, anchored by Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, which appeals to Lillard. The Heat also has 23-year-old former Sixth Man of the Year winner Tyler Herro as the potential centerpiece of a trade package and can offer clutch playoff performer Caleb Martin, former first-round pick Nikola Jovic, and multiple future first-round picks.

Heat executive Pat Riley recently praised Herro during his end-of-season media availability. “We missed him. People just don’t understand how lethal he is in those moments. He gets bigger in the biggest of moments. We’ve seen it time and again from the bubble to here. We’ve got two anchors in Bam and Tyler.”

However, it wouldn’t be the first time an executive has praised a player on his current team only to move him. Just ask Mike Dunleavy Jr. after trading Jordan Poole four days after saying he expected him with the Warriors for another four years, given his contract extension.

Philadelphia’s Tyrese Maxey, a player several NBA executives believe can become a future All-Star, is not for sale at this time. However, with James Harden demanding a trade out of Philadelphia and Daryl Morey always looking to add a star player, the 76ers are worth monitoring. The team has had several trade talks surrounding Tobias Harris as well this offseason.

Jeff Green joins Rockets

The Houston Rockets agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with NBA champion Jeff Green, as first reported by HoopsHype. The deal, negotiated by agent Jason Glushon of Glushon Sports Management, reunites Green with Rockets coach Ime Udoka who coached Green during the 2020-21 season with the Brooklyn Nets. The Nuggets attempted to bring Green back for next season but were outbid by the Rockets.

Green, a 15-year veteran, turns 37 in August and is expected to provide veteran leadership and a steady on-court presence to a Rockets team looking to compete for the playoffs next season after hiring coach Ime Udoka and agreeing to deals with Fred VanVleet, Dillon Brooks, Jock Landale, and Green.

Over his past three seasons combined with the Brooklyn Nets and Denver Nuggets, Green has remained a productive player averaging 9.8 points on 50.3 percent shooting from the field.

The Los Angeles Lakers and guard Austin Reaves agreed to a four-year, $56 million Early Bird maximum contract, which includes a player option in the fourth year of the deal, league sources told HoopsHype. Agents Aaron Reilly and Reggie Berry of AMR Agency negotiated the deal.

The Lakers gave off strong indications around the league that they’d match any offer sheet for Reaves and ultimately gave him the most they could according to salary cap rules. For Reaves, the deal allows him to remain where he always wanted to be, Los Angeles, to compete for a championship, continue to open up further marketing opportunities like his new sneaker deal, and can opt out of the fourth year of the deal when the salary cap is expected to rise further.

Grant Williams and PJ Washington

The Hornets are considering an offer sheet to Celtics restricted free agent Grant Williams, league sources told HoopsHype. Williams has also received interest from the Mavericks, among other teams, with a return to Boston for Williams considered “unlikely,” according to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.

Amid Charlotte’s interest in Williams, the Hornets are also in discussions with restricted free agent PJ Washington on a possible deal. Washington has drawn interest from several other teams on the market, and Rui Hachimura’s three-year, $51 million deal with the Lakers could be a potential ballpark figure for Washington’s next contract.

Malik Beasley has interest from six teams

Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

Lakers free agent guard Malik Beasley has drawn interest from the Sixers, Suns, Raptors, Mavericks, Bucks, and Warriors, league sources told HoopsHype. Beasley led the NBA in three-pointers made off the bench last season and is a career 37.8 percent shooter from beyond the arc.

Terence Davis free agency interest rising

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Free agent Terence Davis has received interest from the Celtics, Bucks, Mavericks, and Raptors, league sources told HoopsHype. Davis has averaged 8.6 points over the last three seasons with the Sacramento Kings. Depending on what happens with James Harden trade talks, the 76ers could also join the mix for Davis’ services.

Torrey Craig to reunite with coach Monty Williams?

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Torrey Craig has received interest from several teams on the market, including the Detroit Pistons and the Sacramento Kings, league sources told HoopsHype.

New Pistons coach Monty Williams was a fan of Craig during their time together with the Suns where Craig set career-highs in games started (60), three-point percentage (.395), and points (7.4).

  • Cam Johnson’s four-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets can reach up to $108 million with full bonus incentives, league sources told HoopsHype. The Nets also agreed to a one-year deal that’s worth $2.53 million with guard Dennis Smith Jr, league sources told HoopsHype.
  • Bruce Brown, a key rotation player for the Nuggets en route to a championship, had six offers around the non-taxpayer mid-level exception and other cap space teams that inquired before breaking the bank on a two-year, $45 million offer from the Indiana Pacers, league sources told HoopsHype.
  • The Houston Rockets agreed to a four-year, $32 million deal with center Jock Landale that is fully guaranteed in the first year, non-guaranteed the rest of the contract, and also includes a team option on the fourth year of the deal, league sources told HoopsHype. Colleague Yossi Gozlan further reports Landale’s cap hit is a flat $8 million each year of the contract.
  • A couple of players had their contracts fully guaranteed, including Toronto Raptors forward Thaddeus Young, who’ll earn $8 million this upcoming season. Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl also had his deal fully guaranteed and will earn $1.9 million.
  • The Miami Heat filled multiple two-way spots by agreeing to deals with Jamaree Bouyea and Dru Smith, league sources told HoopsHype. Bouyea had several suitors in free agency and led the G League in call-ups last season. Smith spent time with Miami and Brooklyn last season.
