2023 AT&T Byron Nelson picks, odds, predictions, field: Golf expert fades Scottie Scheffler at TPC Craig Ranch - CBS Sports

USATSI

They say everything's bigger in Texas, and that might include golf, as the PGA Tour will welcome a strong pre-major field for the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson. Dallas resident and world No. 2 Scottie Scheffler headlines a 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson field that features numerous golfers with Texas ties. They include Scheffler's University of Texas teammate Doug Ghim, current UT stars Pierceson Coody and Parker Coody, former Baylor standout Jimmy Walker and Texas Golf Hall of Famer Ryan Palmer. Longhorns legend and Dallas native Jordan Spieth had to withdraw Monday. Among the other PGA Tour stars in the AT&T Byron Nelson 2023 field are major champions Hideki Matsuyama, Jason Day and Adam Scott.

The tournament tees off Thursday at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, and Scheffler is the clear +450 favorite in the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Tyrrell Hatton (+1400), Day (+1800) and two-time defending champion K.H. Lee (+1800) are the only other golfers shorter than 20-1. Tom Kim (+2000) and Matsuyama (+2500) also are among the favorites, with Scott and Matt Kuchar at +3500 in the AT&T Byron Nelson 2023 field. Before making any 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson picks, be sure you check out the PGA Tour predictions and best bets from SportsLine golf insider Sia Nejad.

Nejad specializes in betting and DFS in golf, among other sports. He's had incredible success in the outright market, first-round leader market and betting head-to-head matchups. Last week, he had Wyndham Clark among his longshot outrights, backing the 75-1 shot before he dominated at Quail Hollow for his first PGA Tour victory.

In 2022, he hit six first-round leaders in a 12-week span while peppering in tournament outrights throughout the year. In 2023, Sportsline debuted "The Early Wedge," and in the first three months of the show, he hit two FRLs and three outright winners. Nejad also had a winning head-to-head record in eight of 10 weeks (including full tournament sweeps on head-to-head plays). He was up more than 70 units over that three-month span.

Now, Nejad has studied the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson field and has locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. You can head to SportsLine now to see all of Nejad's PGA picks and analysis.

Top 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson expert picks

One player Nejad is fading is Scheffler, despite the 26-year-old's dominance all season along with Jon Rahm. In fact, a victory would vault Scheffler back over Rahm for the No. 1 ranking. But Nejad says the price is "simply too short," especially after Spieth's withdrawal left him as the clear No. 1 choice. The 2022 Masters champion also has been off the past three weeks and will be gearing up to go after a second major title. He could be rusty, and while Scheffler hasn't finished lower than 12th since October, he was T-10 at the Masters and T-11 at the RBC Heritage.

Nejad is looking for a true threat who would bring a decent payout, and he likes what he has seen lately from Tom Kim. The 20-year-old tied for 23rd at Quail Hollow and finished T-16 at the Masters. Kim "is finally starting to round into the form that we witnessed last summer," Nejad says. That is when he capped a strong run with his second PGA Tour victory at the Wyndham Championship in August. Kim has four top-10 finishes this season, three of those in 2023. The expert knows if the rising young star can get his putter going he will be in the mix. See who he is backing at SportsLine
