All eyes in the boxing world will be on Terence Crawford (37-0) and Shawn Porter (31-3-1) on Saturday night. They will collide at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in a ESPN televised main event.
The 34-year-old Shawn Porter is a prohibitive underdog but is very confident heading into fight night.
Part of his confidence stems from the sparring he received in his training camp. He revealed that his sparring team included former interim super middleweight champion Andre Dirrell and three-division Gervonta "Tank" Davis. He said that sparring Davis was a perfect way to end his training camp.
"I think getting him on the back end of the sparring was more so to make sure the eyes and the focus and everything is there. He is one of the sharpest boxers I have ever been in the ring with. I am sure it won't change much after being in the ring with Terence. I imagine that Terence will be the sharpest but that boy Tank is sharp," Porter explained.
Porter also mentioned that as he has gotten older, he has also gained experience which has taught him how to handle situations in the ring differently. He said that he will show his ability to adjust and adapt on Saturday night.
"As a kid you kind of learn things and in time you learn more and some things you learned as a kid - not that they don't matter any more but you find other ways. I will give you a prime example," said Porter.
"As a kid, my dad said the way you beat a counter puncher is with combinations. A counter puncher can counter one punch or two punches but can't counter three, four or five punches. As you get older you learn you don't have to just throw combinations for this guy not to counterpunch me. I can feint him or force him to be first to take away his counterpunch."
