Patriots’ Brian Hoyer, Nick Folk revert to practice squad after Week 1 elevations - Pats Pulpit

Quarterback Brian Hoyer and kicker Nick Folk reverted to the New England Patriots’ practice squad on Monday, according to the NFL transaction wire.

Both vested veterans were standard elevations for New England’s season opener against the Miami Dolphins at Gillette Stadium. Under the league’s addendum, both may be elevated once more before necessitating spots on the 53-man roster.

The active roster currently stands at 52 for the Patriots after former Dolphins wide receiver Malcolm Perry was placed on injured reserve with a foot issue over the weekend.

Hoyer, 35, backed up Mac Jones in the rookie quarterback’s first NFL start and did not take an offensive snap. The 2009 rookie free agent out of Michigan State is in his third tour with the organization.

Folk, 36, converted on all three field goals as well as his lone extra point as undrafted kicker Quinn Nordin went to the inactives list for the Patriots’ 17-16 loss. The 2007 Pro Bowler and March re-signing was twice named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week last campaign.

The 16-man practice squad remains at capacity as the page turns to the New York Jets.

New England visits MetLife Stadium next Sunday for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
