In the least surprising development of the young baseball season, Trevor Bauer is adding spice to the Dodgers-Padres rivalry.
After the two NL West powers met in a three-game series that lived up to the hype, Bauer took to Twitter — where else? — to add fuel to the rivalry.
Bauer took a no-decision on Sunday in a well-pitched game opposite new Padres southpaw Blake Snell. In his post-game Zoom press conference, Snell criticized Bauer for messing up the mound.
“Oh my God … it looked like something just crashed on top of the mound,” Snell said. “It was just the biggest hole. So, Bauer, we gotta work on that. I know you gotta get grip on the ground or whatever. But, man, my foot was killing me.”
Bauer couldn’t help himself, tweeting a video of Snell’s comments and writing: “Whispers *it was your toe that made the hole homie*” with two laughing emojis. He wasn’t done. He also quote-tweeted a wild Manny Machado swing-and-miss on a slider he threw in the dirt, and wrote: “Deserves a quote tweet” with two laughing emojis.
The two teams will meet again for a four-game series starting Thursday in Los Angeles and Bauer is scheduled to pitch in the series. This will only get more interesting.
