New Jets scheme makes linebacker 2021 NFL Draft priority - New York Post

As part of The Post’s 2021 NFL Draft preview, we examine what the Jets might do at each position. Wednesday: Linebacker.

Linebacker is a sneaky big need for the Jets. The position has not gotten the attention the offensive line or cornerback have this offseason, but, with Robert Saleh switching the Jets to a 4-3 after years of being a 3-4 team, they are basically starting over at linebacker.

C.J. Mosley is expected to return after opting out last season. The Jets have discussed trading him, but it is hard to imagine anyone is going to take on his onerous contract. The team also signed Jarrad Davis in free agency to fill one of the linebacker spots. That still leaves one starting spot up for grabs and plenty of need for depth.

Notre Dame’s Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah would be a nice fit in Saleh’s defense, but there is a chance he won’t be on the board at No. 23. Kentucky’s Jamin Davis has moved up the media draft rankings lately and looks like he could now be a first-round pick. Tulsa’s Zaven Collins is another consideration at 23 or in the second round at No. 34.

On the second day of the draft, players like LSU’s Jabril Cox and Ohio State’s Baron Browning are possibilities. Jets GM Joe Douglas also may look to add linebackers late in the draft as developmental players and immediate contributors on special teams.
