Charley Casserly Mock Draft 2021: Miami Dolphins add immediate starters in latest projection - The Phinsider

The NFL Draft kicks off two weeks from last night. The Miami Dolphins hold two picks on the opening night of the annual selection meeting, slated to add key prospects with the sixth- and 18th-overall picks. How will they use those two selections? If NFL.com’s Charley Casserly’s latest 2021 NFL mock draft is accurate, they will be adding a starter on each side of the ball.

With the sixth pick, Casserly projects Miami to add LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. He writes of the pick, “Discussions have circled all offseason around Tua Tagovailoa needing more playmakers. The Dolphins get a big one here.”

The pick would be a homerun selection for the Dolphins and there is not a lot about which to complain here. The other big name target for Miami is likely Florida tight end Kyle Pitts, but Casserly has him coming off the board with the fourth pick to the Atlanta Falcons.

The Dolphins jump to the defensive side of the ball with the 18th pick in Casserly’s prediction, though they do not look far to find their target. With the selection, the Dolphins add University of Miami edge rusher Jaelen Phillips. He explains, “After landing one of the top offensive talents, Miami gets another gem, but on the defensive side of the ball. Phillips will do well on Brian Flores’ unit.”

Miami would take a big step forward coming out of the first round with Chase and Phillips. Is it the right first round for Miami?
