The 49ers aggressively moved up to the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, given them a shot at these four can’t-miss prospects.

So much for the San Francisco 49ers staying quiet between now and day one of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Last Friday, news broke the Niners were engineering a move that would send draft pundits into a frenzy, making a huge blockbuster deal with the Miami Dolphins and moving up from the 12th overall pick in April’s draft to the No. 3 overall pick, originally held by the Houston Texans.

In turn, San Francisco sent off its own first-round pick this year, along with a first- and third-round pick in 2022 and another Round 1 pick in 2023. Quite a lot to give up, yes. But if the player eventually selected at No. 3 overall turns into a cornerstone player, likely a quarterback, few will ever think back and wonder whether or not it was a good idea in the first place.

Regardless, this is a huge move overall, and based on how the rest of the offseason has gone, the 49ers are making some bold moves to push them over the top. There are plenty more options available to them now in the draft, too, including prospects who were mere pipe dreams to fall to the Niners originally at No. 12.

Aside from those first two picks, the first overall being Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence to the Jacksonville Jaguars, San Francisco’s draft board is essentially entirely open for general manager John Lynch and Co.

The 49ers are now in a prime position to get the player they want. Now, normally when teams make a move like this, it’s to go up grab a quarterback.

Fortunately, there’s no shortage of players who now fit the bill as can’t-miss targets, including some high-profile quarterbacks.
